Honda City Sport: Is this a joke Honda?

Honda City Sport in Red Color

You cannot launch a car with CVT gearbox and label it “Sport” or can you? Honda does exactly that, it’s a sporty car in which you have to plan your overtakes. Honda has recently launched Honda City Sport with CVT that is literally a gearbox made for grandpas and boomers.

CVT transmission uses a system of belt and pulleys to give a car impression of different gear ratios, when you depress the accelerator, you get a massive engine noise and almost no acceleration. Because the belts and pulleys take their sweet little time to adjust the ratios.

Honda should have quoted the 0-100 times, in gear acceleration numbers, drag and handling improvement due to spoiler as they have very beautifully used Red Bull Racing formula 1 car in their advertisement. No sir, they have only added black and red elements and labelled the exact same car as “Sport”.

It is hard for me to understand why brands are using the “sport” word only for exterior and interior elements. Honda is latest with their City. Skoda does it with Sportline and

Volkswagen does it with GT line variants. Throttleandtech.com readers are the new generation of car buyers, only black paint will not work for us, the word sport carries some depth to it and it should be respected.

I would be a little less sad if City Sport came with a manual tranny, Honda City manual is a nice car to drive, and a certain segment of new-gen car buyers would like to have their manual city with hint of black and red.

Talking about exterior, Honda has added – Black grill, Black spoiler, Gray wheels and Sport emblem – this one element has added 50hp to the car (no it has not).

Elements all look very tasteful, and the car looks stunning, even the outgoing car looks very beautiful (No sarcasm here).

In term of Interior elements, the black seats and the red stitching looks good, except the red garnish on the dashboard.

It is important to note that the car is based off a lower variant I believe to be V or VX,

So, you lose out on the digital rev-meter, you also don’t get the side view mirror camera, further you don’t get a sunroof, and you also do not get an auto dimming rear view mirror to name a few. This is not a comprehensive list of features that City Sport misses out on.

The car is priced at 14.88 lakh ex-showroom. If you liked this article do, make sure to check out this video https://youtu.be/58JJMasCGm0
